Divisionals and C&C

Divisional Meet

Culminating the swim season, each SAIL division holds a swim meet in which all teams in that division come together and compete. Heritage Lakes will compete in a full day swim meet against other teams in our division. This is a fun meet where all teams dress in a theme and parade on deck with their theme song. It is the final meet of the season and follows a team-bonding week of activities.

Swimmers MUST compete in at least 2 regular season meets in order to be eligible to compete in the Divisional meet. You do not have to have a time in an event in order to swim it in Divisionals. However, swimmers should pick their three best events. ONLY the Divisionals time qualifies a swimmer for Championships or Classics. Divisionals entries do not count towards Ironman award.

Championships & Classics Meet

The results from all of the Divisional Meets are combined to identify the fastest 40 SAIL swimmers in each event to compete individually in Classics (top 16 swimmers) and Championships (next fastest 24 swimmers). The Championships Meet (Places 17-40) is held the following Saturday after the Divisional Meet, and the Classics Meet (Places 1-16) is held the day after Championships Meet on Sunday afternoon.  Championships & Classics are held at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville. Swimmers who compete at Championships and Classics will receive a medal. Swimmers may also purchase a t-shirt with their name or phrase on the back. There is a competition to see who can come up with the best phrase for the back of their t-shirt.

Swimmers MUST participate in the Divisional meet to be eligible for the Championships & Classics meet.

What is "Bloody Sunday"?

During SAIL’s first three decades, the record-keeping was done entirely by hand, utilizing time cards. Each swimmer had a card that followed them thoughout a meet, for recording race results. After the divisional meets, these cards were sorted by age group and time to determine who was eligible for Championship/Classic and how to seed the heats. From early Sunday morning to well past dark over 50 volunteers sorted, stacked, and laid out cards on seeding grids – and then everything had to be typed, rushed to the printer, and delivered to the coaches by Monday morning.
